Upper Red Lake — Shallow Spinner Season
Dick Beardsley’s Sept. 2 Bemidji Pioneer roundup says Upper Red walleye action is still “pretty good, especially for this time of year” — which is guide-speak for don’t sleep on the skinny water just because the calendar says Labor Day leftovers. Fish putting on the feed bag. You putting on sunscreen and bad decisions. Symbiosis.
Good numbers coming on a spinner and crawler or crankbaits in 3–5 feet. Sunny Beach on the southeast corner called out as one of the better spots over the past week. That’s not a treasure map — that’s a public shoreline hint with a date on it. Cover water, keep the presentation moving, and try not to act surprised when a fish that lives in three feet of water still somehow feels like a conspiracy.
No invented counts, no secret weedline fairy tales. Just the Pioneer’s dated signal: shallow, spinner/crawler or cranks, southeast corner getting love.
