Cass Lake — Day Jigs, Night Bars, Muskie Side Quests
Cass in early September, per the Bemidji Pioneer’s Sept. 2 Beardsley roundup, is running that split-personality schedule Minnesota lakes love: daytime grind, evening parade. Day shift: walleyes on jigs tipped with crawlers or plastics in 15–20 ft. Night (and evening) shift: troll crankbaits on the bars around 8 ft on Cass and Pike Bay. It’s like the fish clocked out of the office and went straight to the bars. Literally.
Bigger perch showing in 8–10 ft around Star Island on Cass, or LeRoy’s Bar and Black’s Bar on Pike Bay. Bluegills and a few crappies hanging around 8–10 ft weeds in Buck Lake (Cass), plus Kitchi and Moose. Muskies chasing bucktails along Wishbone Bar and North Cedar Bar on Cass — which is either a fishing report or the start of a country song, and honestly both are fine.
