Happy Labor Day weekend, Minnesota. The air feels like it still thinks it’s July’s cousin who overslept and showed up in September with a cooler full of humidity.
Sunday (Sep 6): Warm and sticky statewide. Twin Cities looking mostly cloudy and dry-ish this afternoon (highs around the low/mid-80s, light SSE breeze). Western Minnesota’s where the weather’s got opinions — scattered storms possible, and NWS says a few could get feisty (hail/wind). Northern MN cooler and quieter by the big lake (Duluth area highs ~70s). If you’re fishing west, keep one eye on the sky and the other on “where’d I put the rain jacket.”
Labor Day (Sep 7): Still summer-mode warm. Metro may stay mostly fair through much of the day, with shower/storm chances rising later as a front idea approaches — NWS Twin Cities has PoP climbing Mon night (gusty SSE winds possible). West/north keep higher chance language earlier. Lake Superior anglers: today looks calm; Mon night Duluth marine forecast gets spicy (building seas / possible gale-need language on parts of the North Shore). Don’t argue with Superior when it starts flexing.
Tuesday (Sep 8): The “okay, now it rains” day for a lot of the state — showers/storms more widespread, then a cooler, sunnier midweek setup behind it. NWS favors heaviest amounts more toward northern MN; southern half still in the shower game. After that front, Wednesday looks windier and more autumn-adjacent (especially north).
Safety (verified public notes): Western MN storm risk today (some strong/severe possible). Mon night–Tue morning another round (some strong/severe possible; not expected to be a widespread severe outbreak per Duluth HWO). Patchy morning fog possible north/Superior nearshore earlier today. No lake-temp or inland stage numbers in this digest — we didn’t find solid public numbers, so we’re not inventing any.
